PURPOSE:To retrieve quickly and surely required data of an object of purpose for a person who has no basic knowledge of a name of the object by using the shape of object itself as a keyword for the retrieval. CONSTITUTION:When a shape of retrieval object is inputted to a picture input device 14, the device 14 sends the shape data to a graphic information processing section 21. The processing section 21 digitizes the shape data and stores it in an original shape storage section 22. An information file 23 stores digitally the shape of many objects, an information file picture read section 24 extracts the shape information of the file 23 and stores it in a retrieval key shape storage section 25 storing the shape as picture information. A shape comparing section 26 uses the picture information of the storage section 22 as a keyword and compares the picture information with the shape information of the storage section 25, and when both the information are very alike, a retrieval information call section 27 extracts the object data from the file 23 and displays the data on a data display section 16.
