PURPOSE:To reduce the restriction of a measuring density range to a large extent, by applying a magnetic field having the proper value in a range of 300-1,350 gauss corresponding to the kind of an element to a light source and allowing the frequence of sigma<-> element to a light source and allowing the frequency of a sigma<-> component at a position where luminous intensity becomes max. to coincide with or approach that of the absorption spectrum of an atom to be analyzed at a position where the absorption of said spectrum becomes max. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic field ranging from 300 gauss-1,350gause is applied to a light source 21 by a magnet 22 corresponding to the kind of an element and an emitted atomic spectrum is polarized to be separated into a sigma<+> component and a sigma<-> component by Zeeman effect. An analytical specimen 2 of an aqueous solution is sucked by a sprayer 25 and introduced into an acetylene flame 26 as mist to dissipate the dissolved inorg. substance in an atomic state and light 23 is absorbed by an atomic absorption phenomenon. A phase plate 28 converts two circular polarized lights to two linearily polarized lights crossing at right angles. A polarizer 29 transmits only the linearily polarized light corresponding to the sigma<-> component to allow said polarized light to be incident to a photoelectric converting element 30. The converted electric signal is amplified by an amplifier 31 and receives logarithmic conversion by a signal processor 32 to form a difference signal which is, in turn, displayed on a display device 33 every time when the analytical specimen 24 is measured.
