PURPOSE:To reduce the pressure loss and simplify the construction of the title heat exchanger, by a construction wherein a plurality of solid-gas heat- exchanging chambers have a conical shape, a slant surface is surrounded by a side wall consisting of a part of an upright cylindrical body and a ceiling, a particulate material outlet port is provided at the lower end of the slant surface, and a gas inlet port is provided at the upper end of the slant surface. CONSTITUTION:The interior of the upright cylindrical body 50 is divided into a plurality of heat-exchanging chambers 61-65 by several structures provided therein which are constituted of conical slant surfaces 51, 55 for receiving a particulate material, descending pipes 53, 57 for the material and gas passages 52, 56. The particulate material falling on the surface 51 flows through the pipe 53 into the chamber 62. A damper 54 prevents the material from being blown away through the pipe 53. In the chamber 62, the particulate material is subjected to direct heat exchange in a similar manner, then falls onto the surface 55, flows into the pipe 57, and flows through a damper 58 to be fed.
