PURPOSE:To record letters of different sizes in the widthwise direction without complicating the drive circuits of a thermal head by a using a system in which the moving speeds of the carriage are switched by a speed switcher. CONSTITUTION:In case where pica letters and elite letters are switched to each other, the ratio of the number of a gear 15 to the number of a gear 16 is set up to a given value. When recording the pica letters, rocking plates 21 and 22 are counterclockwise turned to engage the switch gear 19 with the gear 15. When recording the elite letters, the rocking plates 21 and 22 are clockwise turned to engage the switch gear 20 with the gear 16. The moving speeds of the carriage can thus be switched, enabling letters of different widths to be recorded. |
