The dispensing container consists of a support (1) which is suitably weighted, and is fitted with a vertical extension tab (11) on which a container (2) for the objects slides, the bottom of which is provided with a groove (21) which engages with relative translatory motion with said tab (11). The projections (15, 15') and the stops (22, 22') prevent the container (2) and the support (11) respectively from becoming detached during their relative motion. As the container (2) is lifted by the user, an object is pulled from the shelf (12) located on the top end part of the tab (11) and is deposited in its cavity (13) and remains extracted when the container (2) is lowered and reaches the end of its downward travel. A lid (3) provided with a slit (31) into which the shelf (12) slots, hygienically closes the container, while enabling said shelf to pass through an extension of the slit (31); the gap created by the lowered (16) and inclined (16') profile of a part of the shelf (12) enables the extracted article to be held there, even when it is raised from its seat (13). This dispensing container is particularly suitable as a dispenser for toothpicks, cotton buds and other household articles such as needles, pins, straws, etc. It has many other applications in dispensing metal and plastic trinkets and tools in workshops, shops, department stores, etc. Another important use is as a medical/sanitary dispenser of tampons, sanitary articles and medical and surgical instruments in doctors' surgeries and hospitals. <IMAGE>
