PURPOSE:To recognize that the arrow mark is correctly obtained even when the short segment is not completely removed by the short segment removing processing by judging whether or not the short segment, which remains at the time of the arrow mark recognizing processing, goes to be the constitution factor of the arrow mark, and recognizing the arrow mark. CONSTITUTION:An optical drawing reading machine 1 reads the graphic recorded on the drawing including the arrow mark. The graphic read from the drawing is thinned by an image processor 2. After the short segment removing processing to remove the short segment of the length or below prescribed beforehand from the graphic line thinned by the thinning is executed, the short segment remains at the graphic removed by the short segment removing processing, and then, the characteristic on the graphic to be held as the arrow mark is judged, and when the characteristic is satisfied, the arrow mark recognizing processing to register the graphic as an arrow mark is executed by a main computer 8. The recognized result is displayed by a displaying recording device 6 and recorded.
