PURPOSE:To easily display plural kinds of dot matrix patterns which differ in the number of picture elements by using the same dot matrix liquid crystal panel by driving every other signal line and every other scanning line respectively and switching the numbers of picture elements. CONSTITUTION:This employs an even and odd division system which drives alternate signal and scanning electrodes by using two driving circuits. For example, the movable contact 4c of the 1st switch 4 is connected to the 1st fixed contact 4a and the movable contact 5c of the 2nd switch 5 is connected to the 1st fixed contact 5a respectively to obtain a full dot display of 128X480 on 1/128-duty time-division drive basis. On the other hand, the movable contact 4c of the 1st switch 4 is connected to the 2nd fixed contact 4b and the movables contact 5c of the 2nd switch 5 is connected to the 2nd fixed contact 5b respectively to output the same data to segment signal lines Y1 and Y2, Y3 and Y4...(2Yn-1) and 2Yn while setting the duty number to 1/64, thereby making a display of 64X240 dots.
