PURPOSE:To obtain a simple, low cost fuel cell using no shift converter by using Cu2Cl2-containing solution in an electrolyte for fuel electrode in a CO/O2 fuel cell, and making to react CO as carbonyl complex of cupurous ion. CONSTITUTION:A fuel cell main body 1 is formed by separating a fuel chamber 13 having a fuel electrode 5 comprising porous carbon and an air camber 15 having an air electrode 6 comprising porous carbon carried with Pt catalyst by a separator 14. A salt such as LiCl, ZnCl2 and HCl are contained in Cu2Cl2- containing solution to accerelate oxidation of CO and this solution is used as electrolyte of the fuel electrode 5. The separator 14 is used to separate electrolyte for both electrodes and to move H<+> ion in an arrow direction 16. Thereby, a simple, low cost CO/O2 fuel cell is obtained. |
