An apparatus for making a hot melt adhesive bonded pile fabric which comprises means for positioning pile forming yarn in pile forming fashion adjacent to at least one side of a liquidpermeable base layer; means for applying a hot melt adhesive heated to at least its softening point to the base layer on the opposite side of the base layer from the side adjacent to the pile forming yarn; means for forcing the hot melt adhesive through the base layer into bond forming contact with the pile forming yarn, thereby bonding the pile forming yarn to the base layer.
