NEW MATERIAL:The benzimidazole derivative of formula I [R1 is halogen, alkyl, alkoxy or haloalkyl; R2 is H or alkyl; R3 is H, group of formula II (R4 is H, OH or alkoxy), formula III (R5 is H, OH or alkoxy) or formula IV; m is 1 or 2; n is 0-2]. EXAMPLE:2,4-Dimethyl-1-(3,7-dimethyl-2,6-octadienyl)benzimidazole. USE:Agricultural and horticultural insecticide and miticide and hygienic insecti cide. The present compound is characterized by the introduction of a specific substituent group to a benzene ring. PREPARATION:The compound of formula I can be produced e.g. by reacting the benzimidazole compound of formula V with the halogen compound of formula VI (Y is halogen) in the presence of an acid acceptor.
