PURPOSE:A cosmetic, containing a metal-coated mica prepared by forming a metal film on the particle surfaces of mica powder with a chemical plating agent and as necessary, firing the coated particles while heating as a colorant and capable of giving not only silver white pearly luster but also continuous colored pearly luster. CONSTITUTION:A cosmetic containing metal-coated mica obtained by forming metal films on the particle surfaces of mica powder having within 1-100$mum, particularly 5-70mum range average size of the major axis with narrow particle size distribution by chemical plating particularly the film of Ni and alloy there of, e.g. Ni-Cu or Ni-Zn, and as necessary firing the film at 200-500 deg.C tempera ture while heating as a colorant. The method for forming the plated film is carried out by preparing an aqueous suspension of plating pretreated mica powder, and adding the resultant plating suspension slowly thereto to give a strong uniform film on each particle and the control of the plating conditions is easy. Thus, the method is suitable. |
