Organic tertiary polyphosphine monoxides are prepd. in high yield. Organic tertiary polyphosphine compds. (I) [R1, R2, R3, R4, R5, R6, R7, R8=hydrocarbon (C1-30); Y=hydrocarbon containing only carbon and hydrogen, hydrocarbon containing oxygen, nitrogen or sulfur; a,b,d=0,1; C=1,2,3! are reacted with an alkylating agent to give insoluble monophosphonium salts of the compds. (I). The salts are hydrolyzed in alkali soln. to give title compds.
