PURPOSE:To decrease the dependency on picture element number by providing a scanning section comprising a PIN photodiode or the like and using a light beam to attain scanning, coping with large scope and multi-picture elements with simple structure and improving the aperture rate. CONSTITUTION:When scanning light beams 4 touch the PIN photodiode D1 of a monolithic scanning section 3, a current flows to the diode D1 and a capaci tor C1 is charged by a power supply E. When the beam 4 goes out, the diode D1 is turned off. Thus when an optical image of an object is formed on the face of an image pickup section 2, a resistance R1 is changed according to the illuminance to discharge the electric charge in the capacitor C1. When the beams 4 touch, the electric charge lost from the capacitor C1 is compensated, a current flows to the resistor R1 and extracted from an output terminal 5 as a signal in response to the intensity of the light. Then a required signal is extracted similarly as to a picture element of other address. Thus, the device copes with a large scope and multi-picture elements with simple structure, the aperture rate is improved and the dependency on the picture element number is decreased.
