High-purity silicon granules are prepared from molten silicon by introducing the silicon into, for example, pure, deionized water, which flows in counterflow to the molten silicon and is cooled by a cooling device, whereby the formation of granules is promoted. Suitable liquids other than water may be used which will not contaminate the silicon, such as molten salts and metals, oils, non-combustible hydrocarbon derivatives, and coolants, such as chlorofluoro carbons.
|
