814,058. Press-button retractive switches. LEECE-NEVILLE CO. Sept. 2, 1957 [Nov. 29, 1956], No. 27608/57. Class 38 (5). A bridging contact 15 is slidably carried on a shaft 14 which when an actuating member 16 is depressed, moves the contact 15 into engagement with fixed contacts 12, 13. During this movement, springs 46, 47 are stressed until when a shoulder 38 on shaft 14 reaches the Fig. 3 position, a sleeve 41 is pressed downwards by the springs to force a group of balls 39 radially inwards to overlie the shoulder 38. On release of member 16, spring 47 forces it outwards again, but shaft 14 is prevented by the balls from following until the spring 47 is unloaded to a certain extent, at which time the spring 46 and a spring 34 acting upwards on the shaft overcome the spring 47. The shoulder 38 then forces the balls 39 outwards and thus the sleeve 41 upwards, and the contacts open suddenly. |
