PURPOSE:To obtain a uniform titled mass body consisting essentially of diamond by treating agglomerated diamond particles having film of i-carbon or diamondlike carbon formed on the surface by the gaseous phase thermal cracking of hydrocarbon. CONSTITUTION:Film of i-carbon or diamond carbon (designated as i-carbon hereunder) generated by the thermal gaseous phase cracking of hydrocarbon is formed on the surface of diamond particles. The agglomerate of the particles is treated at high temp. and high pressure within a stabilizing range of diamond. Thus, the i-carbon is transformed to diamond, and the particles are bonded to form one body forming a densely agglomerated mass. Thus, densely agglomerated mass of uniform diamond particles consisting essentially of diamond is obtd. without causing deterioration of characteristics due to presence of graphite nor metallic substance and preventing generation of coarse diamond crystal particles in the mass body. |
