PURPOSE:To shorten the detection time of the density and size of an original by providing a density sensor nearby the rotary free end of the 1st arm and also providing an original sensor nearby the rotary free end of the 2nd arm, and rotating both arms within areas required for a platen. CONSTITUTION:This detector is equipped with the 1st arm 10 whose one end is pivoted nearby a positioning reference point R, the density sensor 15 provided nearby the rotary free end of the 1st arm 10, the 2nd arm 20 whose one end is pivoted nearby the diagonal point M of the positioning reference point R, the original size sensor 25 provided nearby the rotary free end of the 2nd arm 20, and a driving means 30 which rotate the arm 10 and 20 properly. Then, the density and size of the original 5 are detected on the basis of the outputs of the sensors 15 and 25.
