A gas-insulated high-voltage current transformer having a primary conductor which is constructed in a U-shape, is accommodated in a gas-tight manner in the housing and is provided with external insulation, is intended to be improved as a carrier for the second system or systems such that failure in the final tests is reduced and the housing seals are not excessively stressed in normal operation, and such that, finally, the primary conductor has a compact construction. This is achieved according to one embodiment of the invention in that the insulation of the primary conductor (1) is constructed as an insulating material wound body (7) which is coaxially surrounded by a shrink hose (12) as an outer sleeve (23). The shrink hose (12) is connected in a gas-tight manner at its ends (17, 18) to the insulating material wound body (7). The insulating material wound body (7) is impregnated with a curable insulating medium. The housing (6) is filled with an insulating gas at atmospheric pressure or at a slight overpressure. <IMAGE>
