In a rock drill, in particular for hammer drilling machines, the base (7, 8) of the cuttings flute or flutes (3, 4), as viewed in a longitudinal section through the axis of the drill, and between parts of the intermediate piece (5, 6) which define the flute base, runs mainly rectilinearly and forms such an acute angle alpha to the axis of the drill that the flute depth decreases towards the drill cutting edge (2). In comparison with known drills, in which the flute depth is constant or increases in the direction mentioned, a better and quicker transport of cuttings out of the drill hole is thereby achieved. <IMAGE>
