Process for stabilising cleavage products in delayed coking

The invention relates to a process for preparing the cleavage products which occur in the delayed coking of coal-based products, preferably tar pitch. The cleavage products are passed through a column in countercurrent to a quenching oil at a system pressure of 0.25 to 1.15 MPa, preferably 0.5 to 1.0 MPa, and cooled to 380 to 410 DEG C. The quenching oil/cleavage product quantitative ratio and the quenching oil temperature are set such that the quantity of the vapour phase is reduced by 1 to 8%. The vaporous cleavage products are released and the condensed liquid products are pumped for tar fractioning.
