High-gradient magnetic separator

In the case of the high-gradient magnetic separator, the ferromagnetic matrix material is located in the inner space of a normal-conducting or superconducting separating magnet (1). The slurry is passed through the said inner space such that it is substantially parallel to the magnetic field of the separating magnet (1). The matrix is divided into individual intrinsically stable matrix elements (6) which are separate from one another. First means (8) are provided for the movement of the matrix elements (6) through the inner space of the separating magnet (1) and second means (3, 3') are provided in the form of a slide for removing charged matrix elements (6) from the inner space of the separating magnet (1) and reincorporating fresh and, if need be, demagnetised matrix elements (6) into the separating magnet (1). <IMAGE>
