A valve for fluids such as, for example, air has an inlet and an outlet connection body, a hollow cylindrical tube running between them, and an insert which is arranged in the tube between the inlet and outlet connection, has an inlet opening and an intermediate chamber and carries a control valve. The cylindrical main valve body is arranged coaxially in the intermediate chamber; it has a flat end face facing the control valve and is tapered towards the outlet connection, an annular groove with a pressure surface being provided in the tapered end. Furthermore, the tube contains an outlet closure section through which the air or the other controlled fluid can flow out of the intermediate chamber via passages in the insert into an entry area of the outlet connection body. The entry area is shaped in accordance with the tapered part of the main valve body so that the air or fluid, acting under pressure from the intermediate chamber on the annular pressure surface, forces the main valve body into the open state, whereas the pressure on the far larger end face of the main valve body forces the latter into the closed position until this pressure is removed as a result of actuation of the control valve so that air or the fluid can escape from the end face of the main valve body to the atmosphere, and the force acting on the annular pressure surface of the tapered end of the main valve body ... greater than the ...
