In the case of a prefabricated circumferential insulation for round pipes, such as inner chimney pipes, an insulating sleeve comprising two insulating panels (1, 2), which are planar in the storage and transportation position and, on the contrary, arched in the mounted position, is achieved in that the planar insulating panels (1, 2) are arched by lateral force on their planar end surfaces (7, 8), with the effect of spreading apart their expansion joints (9), and are mounted in this way. The two insulating panels (1, 2) are connected to each other by articulation strips (11) engaging over the expansion-joint edges (10), with the result that the end surfaces (7, 8) can move from an essentially aligned state, in the storage and transportation position, into a parallel state, in the mounted position. By means of corresponding projections in the region of the outer edges (14, 15) on the end surfaces (7, 8), it can be ensured that the joint (12), formed by the parallel end surfaces (7, 8) in the arched mounted position, is closed in a snugly fitting manner in each case. On transition between the storage and transportation state, on the one hand, and the mounted state, on the other hand, no excessive compressions of material, which would necessitate the use of material with particularly good spring-back properties, occur.
