PRODUCTION OF THIN FILM HEAD FOR VERTICAL MAGNETIC RECORDING

PURPOSE:To avoid an increase of the effective head floating amount due to the recess produced on the tip surface of a main magnetic pole, by forming a main magnetic pole layer on a substrate via an insulated layer and then forming an insulated layer and a magnetic layer successively on the main magnetic pole layer together with the tip of the main magnetic pole set at the same level as a slide surface. CONSTITUTION:Both a nonmagnetic insulated layer 2 and a lower magnetic layer 3 serving as a main magnetic pole are formed on a nonmagnetic substrate 1 in a prescribed pattern. Then insulated layers 4 and 6 are coated on said pattern via a thin film coil 5 and then hardened with heat to form an upper magnetic layer 7. The thickness is increased for an electrode magnetic material 31 having conduction to the layer 3 and a nonmagnetic insulated layer 8, and a slide surface is polished. A recess A at the tip of the layer 3 is filled by plating and polished lightly. Thus the tip surface of the main magnetic pole is set at the same level as another slide surface. This eliminate the increase of the effective head floating amount and improves the recording density.
