A compact lubricant pump (1) has three subassemblies (2 to 4) arranged in series, of which the central one forms a pump casing (5) in which the pump plunger (9) is moved in such a way, via a control device (40), by a frictional piston drive (27) that it moves in an oscillating fashion between a bottom dead centre position (11) and a top dead centre position (12) in the time-dependently controlled pumping phase until the predetermined maximum outlet pressure is reached, whereupon, terminating the pumping phase, the pump plunger (9) moves beyond the bottom dead centre position (11), in the direction of the return stroke, into a pressure-relief control position (13) in which it opens a pressure-relief passage (23) in the manner of a slide-valve control. As a result, the pump is particularly suitable for lubricating systems designed according to the single-line system or whose metering valves for the lubricating location have to be relieved of pressure at the end of a lubricating cycle for return into an initial position. <IMAGE>
