Method of sterilising glass vessels

In a sterilisation method glass vessels pass through a heating duct on a conveying belt where the inner surface of the vessels and/or the outer surface of the vessels is flame-sterilised by means of a controllable burner. Due to the high flame temperature the glass can be heated within a very short time to more than 250 DEG C and at least the inner surface of the hollow glass vessels can be heated to at least 300 DEG C, the vessel rim being spared as far as possible, for example by a flame which is initially short on insertion, by cooling or shielding, so that drying of the entire vessel and satisfactory sterilisation are achieved.
