PURPOSE:To use efficiently a picture recording memory by providing a storage control means eliminating a part corresponding to a hole or a frame or the like for a file provided at the end of a picture in a picture signal and storing the result. CONSTITUTION:A picture signal from an original reader is sent to an input/ output interface 37 via a cable 11, converted into a parallel signal by a serial/ parallel conversion circuit 53 and the picture signal for one column's content in the main scanning direction is written in a RAM 55. A counter 56 reads a count start address from an initial setting register 57, the left end of the picture is eliminated, the picture signal for one column's content of the RAM 55 is transferred to a picture recording memory, and the right end part of the picture is eliminated by using a code 70 so as to set the end address.
