For rapid and reliable preparation of baby food either in the form of a baby bottle to be made up or in the form of heating, in the apparatus according to the invention and the method according to the invention automatic making-up of baby bottles is performed within about 30 seconds and automatic heating of prepared ready-made food in small jars is performed in about 60 seconds. A microwave heater, two induction pumps, a rapid cooler and an electric resonator are provided to make up a baby bottle, the proportions of ready-made food and water to be supplied in each case from assigned containers being metered as a function of the bodyweight of the baby. For process control, the apparatus contains a microcomputer with an input and display device, a function-monitoring device, an automatic stepping transport carousel for baby bottles to be filled, and the visual and/or acoustic preparation signal transmitter.
