NEW MATERIAL:1,3,2-Dioxathiolan-2-oxide derivative of formula I (the groups of formula II is cyclic amino group of 4-5 carbon atoms which may contain hetero atoms other than N atom). EXAMPLE:4-(Pyrrolidinomethyl)1,3,2-dioxathiolan-2-oxide. USE:Synthetic intermediate of functional materials and of pharmaceuticals. PREPARATION:The reaction of a cyclic secondary amine of formula III with glycidol is carried out in an inert solvent to give 3-(cyclic amino)-1,2-propanediol, then the product is allowed to react with thionyl chloride in a solvent such as chloroform with stirring under cooled conditions to give the compound of formula I.
