Arrangement for determining the cross-sectional shape of sawn timber in transport

An arrangement is proposed for determining the cross-sectional shape of the individual sawn timbers (slabs and waney boards with and without a slab component) in transport on a transverse conveyor in a cross-sectional plane parallel to the transport direction. The arrangement is characterised by a device for measuring the distance from a reference plane of the wood surfaces at a fixed measuring point, as well as for generating corresponding distance signals, a device for generating a clock signal synchronous with the transverse conveyor feed, and an electronic data processing system for calculating the cross-sectional shape from the distance signals and the clock signal. One field of application for the arrangement is preparatory operations on the sawn timber transported in transverse fashion before feeding into an automatic trimming device. <IMAGE>
