A drive apparatus for auxiliary equipment of an I.C. engine has a planetary cone reduction gear 7 housed within a pulley 2 which belt-drives auxiliary equipment including a charging generator. An adjusting mechanism 15 for adjusting the reduction ratio of the speed change gear is controlled by an electrical control circuit which is responsive to engine operating conditions, auxiliary equipment load, and the rotational speed of the pulley. The voltage induced at the output terminal of one of the phases of a charging generator driven by the pulley is used as an electrical signal indicating the speed of the pulley.
