<p>A mower-conditioner (14) which is pivotally connected to a tractor (10) has a drive line (26) with a primary drive shaft (28) connected to the tractor and a secondary drive shaft (30), and these shafts (28 and 30) are joined to each other by an intermediate shaft (74) by way of a double cross bearing universal joint (32) and a single bearing universal joint (106) respectively. The intermediate shaft (74) is supported in bearings (44) suspended below the drawbar (12) so that the shaft (74) is held against swinging movement, whilst the double joint (32) is located away from the pivot connection (102) to the tractor. During turns between passes over crop the power delivered by the line (26) must turn through a total angle as large as 90 DEG , but the double cross bearing universal joint (32) needs to turn the power through a small angle, for example of only 35 DEG , thus enabling full power to be used between passes without excessive wear.</p> |
