<p>PURPOSE:To measure substantially the same load as the actual rolling load by attaching strain gages to the inside and outside flanks of mill posts and offsetting the thrust forces generated during rolling. CONSTITUTION:The strain gages 1 are attached to the inside and outside flanks of at least one of the posts 2a, 2b of a mill housing. The strain gages 1 are preferably attached in the position lower than the mill posts 2a, 2b, i.e., lower than the pass line. The sum of the inside and outside strain gage signals =Pin+ Pout=(P/4-DELTAPs)+(P/4+DELTAPs)=P/2 is obtd. and the sum of the strain signals X2= rolling load is resulted, (where Pin: the inside strain gage signal, Pout: the outside strain gage signal, P: rolling load, DELTAPs: the influence of the thrust force Ps on the strain gage signal). The rolling load is thus obtd. in the form of offsetting the thrust forces generated during rolling.</p> |
