PURPOSE:To update and correct a defect section at high speed by providing a detection section for detecting a defect part on a recording medium of an information, a memory section for storing the information immediately before this defect part and a means for determining a writing position with respect to the defect part. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic head 1 reads a data of a magnetic disk 2, and a data for a sector unit is stored time to time in a buffer register having a capacity of two sectors. The read data is inputted to a defect part detecting section 4. A defect part on the disk 2 is detected and when being read, a data storing to the register 3 is prohibited. A register 5 stores a position on updating and correcting the data situated in the defect part, for example, ten bytes are stored. When a writing section 6 updates the defect part, the disk 2 is rotated to become a data discriminating element stored in the register 3. At this time, the contents of the register 3 is written in the disk 2 through a head 1 and the update and correction of the data is written in a position dislocated by 10 bytes of the register 5.
