A method for the treatment of intestinal diseases such as cholera, paratyphoid, tourist diarrhoea, toxin-induced diarrhoea, ulcerous colitis and regional enteritis comprising administering to a patient suffering therefrom an amount of a compound of the formula I <CHEM> or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, effective to mitigate the symptoms of the intestinal disease.
