PURPOSE:To reduce unevenness of physical properties among single yarn, and to improve strength, by copolymerizing an isophthalic acid component containing a specific amount of metallic sulfonate group with a specified amount of a glycol component having a molecular weight limited to a specific range and drawing it under a specific condition. CONSTITUTION:An isophthalic acid component containing 1.0-2.0mol, preferably 1.3-1.8mol metallic sulfonate group is copolymerized with 0.5-1.9wt%, prefer ably 0.7-1.5wt% glycol component having 400-6,000, preferably 400-1,500. The modified polyester having 82-105 polymerization degree is melted, extrud ed, solidified, the yarn is not collected and thermally drawn in the heating zone to give <=1.4 single yarn denier.
