PURPOSE:To facilitate trimming of a resistance by a method wherein a guard ring layer with a missing part is provided on the surface of a P-N junction substrate consisting of an impurity region of one conductive type and an impurity region of the conductive type opposite to the former one. CONSTITUTION:A P-N junction short-circuit type element is constituted by an N<+> type region 1, a P-type region 2, an electrode 11 connected to the N<+> type region 1 and an electrode 12 connected to the P-type region 2. A guard ring layer 10 consisting of an N-type region which has a lower concentration than the region 1 is provided around the region 1 and a missing part C is provided in the layer 10. With this constitution, a current is concentrated on the missing part C so that breakdown can be created by a low current. Therefore, trimming is facilitated. |
