PURPOSE:To prevent reduction in strength of prepared polyester yarn, by melting, extruding and solidifying a polyester showing specific melt viscosity, and by setting the distance from the spinneret face to the inlet of a heating zone through which the polyester yarn is passed to be subjected to heat drawing. CONSTITUTION:A polyester polymer having >=5,000 (poise) viscosity measured by a melt indexer at 290 deg.C is melted, extruded, solidified, passed through a heating zone such as heating column, etc., and thermally drawn. The distance from the inlet of the heating zone to the spinneret face is >=3.5m, preferably >=5.5m, and polyester yarn having >=4g/d strength is obtained.
