PURPOSE:To obtain a training system for an automatic equalizer by allowing a MODEM reception section to generate a training pattern signal for collation whose timing is coincident with a training pattern signal sent from a MODEM transmission section. CONSTITUTION:A carrier is detected by a carrier detector 200 and a threshold circuit 126 and a comparator 206 are operated at a point of sufficient and required elapsed time T2 to a transient response. A pattern signal generator 204 generates the collation training pattern signal synchronously with the point of time when a demodulated training pattern signal of an A/D converting circuit 124 exceeds first either or threshold levels LH, LL in the circuit 126 from the point of time and given to a comparator 206. The comparator 206 compares the training pattern signal with a training pattern signal outputted from the A/D conversion circuit 124 of the reception section 100 and collates, and outputs the error signal to an automatic equalizer 208.
