NEW MATERIAL:A cembrene derivative of the formula. USE:It is used as a flavor improver for tobacco. It does not aroma by itself, however,leberates good smell by pyrolysis. The aroma well harmonizes with intrinsic flavors in tobacco, further make the whole smell mellow to inhibit the irritation with smoke of tobacco. PREPARATION:Immediately after flowers of tobacco are collected, they are dipped in a hydrophilic solvent such as ethanol or acetone to obtain an extract. Then, the extract is concentrated under reduced pressure to distill of the solvent, the aqueous residue is taken in with hydrophobic organic solvent such as ethyl acetate. The extract are concentrated under reduced pressure to dryness and the residue is purified with a silica gel column. Then, the product is concentrated, taken in ethyl acetate, then rinsed with 2% sodium bicarbonate solution, water, saturated sodium chloride solution, dried and distilled under reduced pressure. The residue is purified using a silica gel column, then a reverse-phase column and recrystallization is effected from ether to give the compound of the formula.
