3-Substituted β-carbolines of the general formula I <IMAGE> where R1 denotes an alkoxy, aryloxy or aralkoxy group which contains up to 8 carbon atoms and which is optionally substituted by one or more hydroxyl groups; or NR2R3, where R2 and R3 each denotes a hydrogen atom or a C1-6 alkyl group, or NR2R3 forms a 5-membered ring, and the substituents RA and RC have different meanings, are prepared by a number of processes. The compounds are valuable pharmaceutical compounds which in particular have an effect on the central nervous system. |
