PURPOSE:To make it possible to certainly print an indicated font while reducing the working load of a user, by providing a font memory for storing font data having a font name at every kind of a printing font and referring to the font name by a font indication command to output the same. CONSTITUTION:An interface circuit 10 receives the printing command from an external apparatus and CPU11 controls the operation of a printer as a whole and performs font selection processing. ROM12 is a read-only memory for preliminarily storing the program determining the processing of CPU11 and RAM13 is a memory for storing various data necessary for printing processing by CPU11. A font ROM14 is preliminarily mounted to a printer in a fixed state and stores standard font data. A cartridge ROM15 is ROM freely detachable to the printer and consists of a plurality of font ROM16-19 at every font kind. A drive circuit 20 drives the mechanism part 21 of the printer on the basis of the control of CPU11 to perform printing operation.
