PURPOSE:To register effectively and simply a translated word required for translation processing and its index word to a dictionary by designating a word or a phrase in an original text and a translation displayed and registering them to the translation dictionary as a translated word corresponding to the index word. CONSTITUTION:A translation candidate obtained from a translation device main body 3 is displayed on a display device 6 under the control of a control section 5 together with the original text. Then the mode is set to the dictionary registration mode via an input section 1, a cursor is moved on a display screen, a word in the original text to be registered in a dictionary is designated or the translated word in the translation text to the said phrase is designated, then the control section 5 specifies the designated word in the original text or the translation, and the word in the specified original text is used as an index word and the specified translation in the translated text is registered in a dictionary 4. In this case, when the index word to be registered is subject to conjugation, the registered attribute information is referenced and the translation is registered properly in the dictionary 4.
