PURPOSE:To obtain a high reproducing output by forming the lower layer contg. cobalt and chromium on a base, forming the upper layer consisting of cobalt and chromium on the lower layer to obtain the titled vertical magnetic recording medium, regulating the coercive force of the lower layer in the in-plane direction to 10-220Oe and controlling the thickness of the lower layer to 0.15mum. CONSTITUTION:The lower layer contg. cobalt and chromium is formed on a base and the upper layer consisting of cobalt and chromium is formed on the lower layer to obtain a vertical magnetic recording medium. The coercive force of the lower layer in the in-plane direction is regulated to 10-220Oe and the thickness is controlled to <=0.15mum. The magnetic flux emitted from a magnetic head is passed through the upper layer having high coercive force and absorbed rapidly and sharply by the magnetic pole of the magnetic head, strong residual magnetization is generated in the upper layer and the vertical magnetic recording and reproduction capable of realizing a high output can be carried out.
