PURPOSE:To make fast resumption processing without making operation such as rewinding and positioning etc. of a tape by controlling a group of magnetic tape devices system defined as magnetic tapes that make the fast resumption processing and a group of magnetic tape device not system defined by corresponding process respectively. CONSTITUTION:The group 10a of magnetic tape devices of a system are system defined as magnetic tapes that can make the fast resumption processing. A magnetic tape device 10b is made to make the fast resumption processing without making the definition. Each of processes 10c and 10d corresponding to devices 10a, 10b require the tapes of devices 10a, 10b and controlling information relating to attributes of devices 10a, 10b and mounted tapes are stored in the table 10e of a main memory 10f. Rewinding and removing processes are not made for the tape of the device 10a in initializing process at the time of system resumption and the state before system stopping is retained. The processes are executed by the tape of devices 10b to facilitate the fast resumption process.
