PURPOSE:To prevent wear of a bearing, flaws to a pinch roller and a tape, a noise of the tape at the end of winding and to reduce wow-flutter and reduction in tape speed by making the surface coarseness of a capstan proper. CONSTITUTION:The surface coarseness of the capstan on which a pinch roller made of chloroprene or urethane rubber having a curved face on the pressing face against the capstan is pressed by a force of 200-300g is selected as the surface coarseness that a force pulling a tape with the pinch roller is 100-110g when the capstan is rotated at the speed of 1-10rpm. In the capstan having the surface coarseness shown in the pulling force, even when the load at tape running is increased to 25g from the initial load of 15g, the reduction rate of the tape speed is <=0.6% and a musical scale or wow-flutter due to aging changes is reduced.
