Method of sound synthesis by composition of interceptions of light rays. It uses photoelectric sensors 1 and interchangeable optical discs 2, 3, of an indefinite number, manually producible, turning at various speeds, some at high speeds 3, capable of being controlled and synchronised by means of a keyboard 4. These discs may be arranged in numerous different ways in space in order to create a multiplicity of successive interceptions of light rays originating from various sources including independently movable lights 5, or removable light units, controlled mechanically 6 or electrically 7 by keyboards 8, or even by light transmissions channelled over optical fibres. It finally uses phase shifting systems 9 and optical 2 or electrical 10 sequencer systems. Method applicable to producing synthetic musical instruments and to musical teaching. <IMAGE>
