PURPOSE:To obtain a stainless clad steel material having excellent corrosion resistance by subjecting the clad steel material to a heat treatment at the temp. at which the toughness of a carbon steel or low-alloy steel, i.e., a base metal for the clad steel material is not spoiled or lower and using a specifically composed austenitic stainless steel as the cladding metal to be used. CONSTITUTION:The austenitic stainless steel is clad as the cladding metal on at least one surface of the base metal consisting of the carbon steel or low-alloy steel to produce the stainless clad steel material. The austenitic stainless steel composed, by weight %, of <0.8 C, <0.7 Si, <0.8 Mn, 16-20 Cr, 12-15 Ni, 2.5-5 Mo, <0.2 N and the balance Fe and unavoidable impurities is used for the cladding metal thereof. The resulted clad steel material is heat- treated at 850-980 deg.C.
