PURPOSE:To form U shaped groove in short time with good efficiency by forming with pressing U shaped groove corner part by metal die, then by forming with rough pressing the intermedium part in U shaped groove by metal die and by forming for finishing at the final stage. CONSTITUTION:The slit groove 4 having no defect of notch, etc. on the corner part is formed by the pressing of the slit groove metal die 3 to form U shaped groove on aluminum roller material 1. U shaped groove 2 is then subjected to rough finishing by leaving the finishing allowance with U shaped groove rough finishing metal die 5. Finally the U shaped groove is subjected to finishing formation with pressing of the U shaped groove finishing metal die 5a. The U shaped groove of the aluminum roll 1 is formed in short time with good accuracy by simple technique. The groove 6 prevents the slipping of the metal die by the locating groove in each stage.
