The composite engine piston comprises top and bottom parts secured together by clamping screws, with one or more rings in the bottom part and the remainder in the top part. An annular groove is formed where the parts butt together by undercuts in their outer walls. The groove (17) is of wedge-section. The top and/or bottom flank (20,19) is at between 5 and 30 deg. to the plane at which the top and bottom parts (2,3) bear against each other (15.16).
